The Slavic Village (Warszawa) neighborhood was once part of Newburgh Township.  It became Cleveland's 18th Ward in 1874 upon annexation from Newburgh.  The area was surveyed by the Connecticut Land Company in 1797.  Harvard Grove Cemetery inters the remains of many of Newburgh's earliest settlers.
