Storm damage of April 21, 1909

On April 21, 1909, a tornado struck Cleveland's southeast side and severely damaged St. Stanislaus Church.  Damage was estimated at $50,000, a third the cost of the original construction.  Falling debris killed a child.  Within a year repairs were completed.  When originally built, the church had twin spires reaching 232' in height.  Following reconstruction after the tornado, the towers were truncated to their present height.
