Broadway Savings and Trust Company
Broadway Savings and Trust Company, c. 1885. This bank merged with several others to become The Union Trust Company. Following failure in the Depression, it reemerged as The Union Bank of Commerce (Union Commerce Bank) which was absorbed by Huntington Bancshares. Today Hubcap Heaven occupies the site.
The Broadway Bank Office of The Union Trust Company underwent a remodeling in 1923 and featured an interior with an Egyptian motif popularized by the recent (1922) discovery of King Tut's tomb.
At its grand reopening in April 1923, festivities included a "loudspeaking radio" set up for public listening. Hubcap Heaven now occupies the building. The stairway and railings are intact as are the vaults and elevator. A streetcar turntable operated in front of the bank.
