the Olympia Theater
The Olympia Theater opened with grand fanfare on Friday, April 12, 1912 with an invitation-only private affair. It opened to the general public on Saturday, the evening of April 13, 1912. Putting the gala event in historical perspective, the similarly festive maiden trans-Atlantic voyage of the RMS Titanic was soon to meet its untimely fate with an iceberg. It sank in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912.
The Olympia Building was used as a location shoot for the filming of the 2002 Hollywood film, Welcome to Collinwood, starring George Clooney. Ironically, the facade was transformed to resemble a movie theater called the Luxe.
